Last night I followed the strangest instructions I’ve ever been given.

Someone I had just met gave me an address to visit. I put it into Uber and rode there on faith, and when I stepped out of the car, into the pouring rain, I wasn’t sure what I’d find. By the time I realized I was looking at a dark alley and nothing else, the car was already gone.

I find the intercom and press the button. As instructed, I share a few choice words with the disembodied voice behind the speaker, challenging his honor as a man and his reputation as a lover.

Silence

Silence

A man steps out of a door in the alley that I swear wasnt there just a moment before. He’d like to know just who the hell talks like that to him. I introduce myself.

Silence

With a smile and a handshake, we become friends.

Through the door, down the stairs, champagne appears in my hand before I am ushered to my seat.

3 hours later I left that bar. I had the best drinks I’ve ever had in the United States. I made new great friends with the nicest Irishmen in the world. I got travel recommendations and I committed my couch and my time to any of them or their friends who find themselves in LA.

To think I was considering calling it an early night.
